My Journey

A person laying in the hospital bed

“As I lay exhausted in the hospital bed, a doctor came into the room to give me two options. If they did nothing, I would deplete the small amount of oxygen left in my blood, pass out and die. The second option was a blood transfusion but with the following disclaimer - Every test they tried to mix the blood with my current blood was a failure. In short, I would die as the current blood reacted negatively to the transfused blood and I would die a not so peaceful death. I remember saying in a raspy voice, “Go for it”. I remember looking out the window and slowly realizing that “this is it”. It was the end of my life here on earth.

As I laid there, the days, months, years and even decades passed by me each as a reminder of how I wished I could have done things differently. Things that I thought were so important, paled against this current backdrop while many things that didn’t seem as important were now seen as lost opportunities. To this day when I get really frustrated with the activities in life, I think back and ask myself if I was back in the hospital, would this current situation be something that I wish that I had did or not something to get so stressed about?”

Excerpts from my upcoming book titled “Journey of a Lifetime” - One man’s story of hope, perseverance, love, discipline and motivation to overcome life’s obstacles.
